AFRICA INTERNET SUMMIT (AIS ’19)

The African Network Information center (AFRINIC) together with the African Network Operators Group (AFNOG) organized the Africa Internet Summit (AIS ‘19) which held at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, in Kampala, Uganda from 9th to 21st June 2019. AfNOG workshop and Conference held from 9th to 18th June 2019 and AFRINIC-30 conference held from 15th to 21st June 2019.

The summit aimed at bringing the ICT business and technical community in Africa together under one roof to discuss issues and challenges relating to the Internet, its usage, impact, public and private sector participation. Key areas of focus at the summit included Internet Number Resource Management, Routing Protocol, IPv4 & IPv6, Cyber Security and more.

The Summit called upon the international community to increase access to information and communications technology and strive to provide universal and affordable access to the Internet in developing countries.

Many agreed that the continent’s prospects for the future largely depended on investment in technology. According to AU Agenda 2063 Framework, the information technology revolution provided unprecedented opportunities for Africa. These can only be taken advantage of with the right technical policies to catalyze economic and social transformation.
