DNSSEC ROAD SHOW WEBINAR

On Friday 28th February 2020, ICANN held the AFRDNSSEC webinar. The webinar was chaired by Pierre Dandjinou, ICANN’s Vice President of Stakeholder Engagement for the Africa region

The purpose of the webinar was to receive feedback related to “impact on businesses and any technical issue encountered” from those who have implemented DNSSEC on their country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) zones and to also get the update from those who are still in the planning process. The webinar was attended by many managers of country code Top Level Domains (ccTLD) in Africa.

At the webinar, records of the ccTLDs that have signed their zones and that of those that are yet to sign were shared with the participants. Out of all the ccTLDs listed at the webinar, only 8 Registries have signed their ccTLD zones. These are i.e. Morocco (.ma), South Africa (.za), Madagascar (.mg), Botswana (.bw), Zambia (.zm), Senegal (.sn), Tanzania (.tz) and Kenya (.ke).

It was interesting to note that most of the ccTLDs that have signed their zones have not fully implemented DNSSEC. It was also reported that the zones signed are still under testing and reviewing. Other ccTLDs that are yet to sign their zones also reported the efforts being made, stages reached and progress achieved in the implementation of DNSSEC for their ccTLD.
