Come, Thursday 29th April 2021, NiRA will hold its 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM). This will be a virtual meeting due to the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. NiRA members would be expected to attend the 13th AGM via the Zoom Meeting Link that would be circulated to NiRA Members.

As of 13th April 2021, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) via its website stated that ‘new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded in Nigeria’.  NCDC still advises that despite the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine, we should adhere to the COVID-19 safety guidelines in order to contain the spread of the virus. Nigerians have been urged to continue to take responsibility.

At the end of this year’s AGM, five (5) directors would have completed their tenure on the NiRA Board and would leave the NiRA Board.

Based on the NiRA constitution, the NiRA Executive Board of Directors is made of ten (10) members of NiRA. When the NiRA Director’s voting platform is opened for voting, NiRA members are expected to actively participate in the election of the new board members. NiRA members are to elect 5 (five) members to join the NiRA Executive Board of Directors. It would be my honour as the President of NiRA to welcome these new board members to the NiRA Board.

I urge all NiRA members to participate actively at the AGM. I enjoin all NiRA members who are eligible to vote to exercise their franchise in electing the right candidates to join the NiRA Executive Board of Directors. As we all know the role of the NiRA Board conducts the affairs of the Association in accordance with the NiRA Constitution, bye-laws and resolutions of the General Assembly.

The countdown has started and the NiRA Secretariat will circulate more updates to NiRA members on the AGM in the coming weeks. All NiRA Members are enjoined to be abreast with all the information as circulated.

I equally seize this opportunity to encourage Nigerians to join the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA).  NiRA is a Not-for-Profit, Non-Governmental Self-Regulating body established by the order of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Internet Community to manage Nigeria’s country code Top Level Domain (.ng ccTLD).  Please keep safe and well.

We look forward to NiRA members joining us at the 13th AGM on Thursday 29th April 2021.

 Muhammed Rudman

President, NiRA
